Internships
The Office of Executive Inspector General (OEIG) Internship Program provides students with the opportunity to apply their education and classroom theory to actual work situations in an investigative and legal environment.
The Internship Program allows students an opportunity to learn and experience, under direct supervisory guidance, specific functions of the OEIG.
Interns are provided the opportunity to acquire hands-on, relevant experience on how OEIG investigations are conducted as it relates to complaints alleging fraud, abuse and/or misconduct by any officer, employee, and appointee in, or those doing business with agencies, boards and commissions that are under the jurisdiction of the OEIG. Additionally, interns may have the opportunity to assist staff by conducting legal research, drafting memoranda on matters related to the functions and policies of the Office, and assisting in reviewing cases and writing reports.
The OEIG offers two types of internships within the program - Investigative and Legal.
Investigative: Investigative interns must be a junior, senior or graduate student in good academic standing from an accredited college or university with a focus on criminal justice, public administration, or other related discipline.
Legal: Legal interns/externs must be a current, second, or third year student (or its equivalent if a part-time student) enrolled in an accredited law school. Consideration may be given to internal interns preparing for a bar exam shortly after graduation from an accredited law school.
Based on Office needs, the internship may be paid or provide educational credit, if available, according to the school's policy. Internships coincide with fall, spring, and summer semesters and are full or part-time during the business hours of 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. Interns are required to undergo a criminal and civil background check.
